Kgololo continues to make strides in Alex

When Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha and her husband, Thulani, set to establish Kgololo Academy, few people subscribed to the dream but today the school continues to make strides – year after year.

A combined low-fee private school established in 2015, continues to make strides in providing quality education to learners from Alexandra.

This is the view of the co-founder of the Kgololo Academy, United States of America-born Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha, along with her husband, Thulani, who said in the next year or so, the school hopes to grow into a grade R–12 with more than 300 learners. It currently serves more than 125 scholars across grades 1–7.

The school, which currently uses the premises of the Methodist Church on 2nd Avenue, hopes to have a staff complement of more than 50 when it finally reaches matric level as its children grow from grade to grade since its establishment. The Academy firmly believes in the provision of access to a world-class education at an accessible cost.

“We believe that children should be able to access a world-class education within their communities and we have managed to achieve this through co-funding with fees and generous donations from the ‘Friends of Kgololo’,” said Tolbert-Mbatha.

To prove their belief in the education being offered, the Mbathas’ son, Themba, attended the academy and was one of the pioneers of the school in 2015. He will be in the matric Class of 2028 having started at Grade 0.

Kgololo Academy has a founding team of inspirational teachers, parents, and community members who believe in the unlimited potential of the children of Alexandra. “Our team reflects the greatness and will of the community and is committed to providing a world-class education for all its children,” Tolbert-Mbatha added.
