Adapt urges Alex men to be better fathers to their sons and daughters

Alex men organisations march against GBV.

Agisanang Domestic Abuse Prevention and Training (Adapt) and several other organisations for men marched against what they called ‘societal crimes’ being perpetrated by men in Alexandra.

The march was described as a ‘walk’ and Brother’s for Life facilitator at Adapt, Thapelo Rahlogo said the walk started at Alex Mall and proceeded to Grassroots Sports Facility, where fathers and their children displayed placards with positive messages on fatherhood.

“Looking into the fact that on June 11 it was Father’s Day and it is hardly celebrated, today we decided to empower men on being good fathers. We did this event to encourage and promote positive parenting on the men’s side because we have analysed that most men are not there for their children,” he said.

During the event, men were given a platform to express their views on parenting matters and later on had dialogues around gender-based violence and how they could make a difference in eradicating the scourge of violence and femicide.

There were also speakers of Family South Africa who talked to attendees about the importance of looking after and providing for their families as men.
