A male suspect allegedly shot and wounded a woman in the thigh after demanding that she hand over her cellphone during an armed robbery at her home in Ext 7 in the Far East Bank section of Alexandra.
“The complainant alleged that she was coming back from visiting friends and when she entered the gate to her premises, she was held from the back by a man who demanded her phone,” said Alex Police Station Commander Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela.
“It is alleged that the suspect fired one shot at the ground which prompted the victim to hand over her phone but after the suspect got the phone, he allegedly shot her on the left thigh and fled,” Magudulela said.
She said no arrest had been made so far in connection with this incident and police investigations were ongoing.
