Artist hopes to come out guns blazing for next year’s Mamas Awards
Blacka II a 2022 Best Artist of the year nominee at the Mzansi Art Media Awards, better known as Mamas.
Eliya Leshabane, known as Blacka II, is an Alex-based artist that had been one of the nominees for Mamas 2022 annual awards that were held at The Carousel Casino in Hammanskraal recently.
“I was born and raised in Tzaneen, Limpopo, and started doing music in 2011 with a group of friends. I then decided to branch out on my own and moved to Johannesburg to pursue my music career and landed- in Alexandra.
“This was after I realised that Limpopo had limited resources in terms of wanting to develop my career further,” Blacka II told Alex News in an interview.
Blacka II said when he arrived in Joburg he had the opportunity to work with big artists like ‘The Rebel’, who is originally from Congo.
“I draw my inspiration from the late Linda Mkhize also known as ‘Pro Kid’ and HHP. These are the two artists that inspired me to be who I am today,” he said.
“This year, for the first time in my music career, I was nominated in the Mamas annual awards for Best Hip Hop Artist.
“Although I didn’t win, I got to experience a new thing and now I know what to do because I will try again next year to ensure I probably win it this time around.
“The fact that I got nominated means there is something that I am doing well and will have to improve even further in order to win the category next,” Blacka II said.
