Siyasizana aims to improve playgrounds for children

The Siyasizana initiative aims to improve more than 1 000 playgrounds in nursery and primary schools countrywide by the end of 2030.

The Alexandra community is urged to nominate their favourite primary or nursery school for an improvement of the school’s playgrounds as part of a Siyasizana initiative.

The initiative is part of a transformative “Play Better” campaign that aims to enhance the lives of five million South African primary school and daycare children by improving access to quality play by 2030.
The ‘Play Better’ campaign is influenced by insights from the 2022 LEGO® Play Well Report which highlighted the negative effects of insufficient playtime and other factors in children’s development; positive play emerged as a developmental solution for children from nursery to primary school and the ‘Play Better’ campaign was then initiated last year.

PepsiCo South Africa marketing director for SASKO Nomsa Khanyile said the bread company had recognised the crucial role played by physical play in the development of children.

For their mental, physical, and emotional development and social play, children needed good playgrounds to fulfill this vital requirement in the developmental stages and hence we launched last year this ‘Play Better’ campaign that plans to restore and upgrade 1 000 playgrounds across South Africa by the end of 2030,” Khanyile said at the launch of the second season.

Nomawethu Ngadlela, marketing manager for SASKO South Africa, said communities were urged to nominate their favourite nursery or primary school to benefit from the initiative but with a twist of a marketing element as they are required to buy certain products first and runs until April 30.
