Ward 105 councillor unveils his plans for festive holidays
Ward 105 councillor Tefo Raphadu unveils exciting plans to honour elders and engage youth, while urging residents to unite for safety during the festive season.
Ward 105 councillor Tefo Raphadu is rallying residents of Alexandra to come together in support of two important initiatives: Honouring the elderly and keeping the youth engaged.
With a deep sense of gratitude, Raphadu emphasises the need to appreciate those who have shaped our lives through their teachings and guidance.

“We have a tradition in December where we celebrate our elders with a special lunch. They have raised us and made us who we are today, so, it’s vital that we express our appreciation while they are still alive,” Raphadu said.
He is hopeful the community will rally together to support this initiative. “We’re reaching out to potential sponsors to help make this event possible, and we encourage everyone to come onboard,” he added.
In addition to honouring the elders, Raphadu highlighted the importance of providing programmes for schoolchildren during the busy holiday season.

“We want to ensure our children don’t get lost in the holiday chaos. Engaging programmes can keep them off the streets and steer them towards productive activities instead,” he said.
However, as the festive season approaches, Raphadu also addresses a pressing concern, safety. “We are entering a period where crime rates tend to rise, and it’s crucial for us as residents to look out for one another,” he said.
He calls for vigilance among the community, urging anyone who notices unfamiliar faces loitering in their neighbourhoods to report it. “If you see someone you do not know loitering, please speak up so we can be aware of what’s happening. Now is the time for carjackings and break-ins, and we must protect our community,” he added.
Raphadu encouraged residents to collaborate for the betterment of their township. “Let’s hold each other’s hands and work together to change our community for the better. All of us must be the change we wish to see in Alexandra,” he concluded.
