Two arrested in Alex for fatal shooting

While a third suspect remains at large, EMPD arrested two men in Alex for the killing of a police office in Thembisa.

Two suspects were arrested by the Ekhuruleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) in Alexandra in connection with the fatal shooting of a traffic warden on January 29 in Esangweni section, Thembisa.
Three suspects are alleged to have opened fire, killing the officer before fleeing the scene in a white Avanza.

“Officers launched a manhunt for those responsible to be brought to book. In less than 72 hours, the team worked tirelessly and tracked the perpetrators to Alexandra Hostel and Roosevelt Avenue,” said EMPD spokesperson Zweli Dlamini. “The suspected motor vehicle used as a getaway car was recovered. Two suspects were detained and charged with murder and robbery; one of the suspects is still at large.”
EMPD Acting Chief of Police Julius Mkhwanazi condemned the killing of the officer and extended his condolences to the family of the deceased.
