Bryanston’s Belgrave bridge closed as rain causes overtopping
Ward 103 councillor Lynda Shackleford urges worshippers and pedestrians to stay away from the flooded bridge for their safety.
Due to heavy rainfall in recent days, the Belgrave low-lying bridge in Bryanston is overtopping, prompting Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to close it to all traffic.
The City of Johannesburg urges motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes to ensure safety.

The closure is a precautionary measure to prevent accidents and disruptions caused by rising water levels.
Pedestrians are also advised to avoid the area and find alternate paths for their safety during adverse weather conditions.

Ward 103 councillor Lynda Shackleford stated: “Pedestrians are still crossing the bridge, and there were worshippers at the river this week, despite the rain and rising water levels. It has been a hectic situation.”
She urges worshippers and pedestrians to refrain from using the bridge, or approaching the place of worship, as it is currently unsafe.
