“We acknowledge the significant rise in potholes across Johannesburg caused by the recent heavy rains. Our teams are diligently working to rectify these problems as promptly and effectively as possible,” said JRA chief executive officer (CEO) Zweli Nyathi. “We call upon all citizens to report any potholes they come across via the proper channels, allowing us to prioritise repairs and enhance the overall road conditions. We also urge motorists to reduce their speed and exercise utmost caution to prevent accidents.”
Councillor Kenny Kunene, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Transport, echoed this sentiment, stating: “As a resident of Johannesburg, I too have felt the impact of these potholes. I understand the frustration and inconvenience they cause motorists. I assure the public that we are actively addressing the situation. Our teams are working on the ground to prioritise repairs, restoring our roads to ensure safer travel for all.”

Safety tips for motorists
To ensure their own safety, and that of other road users, motorists are advised to practice the following precautions:
– Reduce speed: Slowing down can help minimise any potential damage to your vehicle if you accidentally hit a pothole.
– Avoid puddles: Puddles may conceal dangerous potholes beneath the surface.
– Maintain a safe distance: Keeping a safe distance between vehicles allows for sufficient reaction time to avoid potholes ahead.
– Avoid abrupt movements: Sudden swerving can result in loss of vehicle control.
