Where to cast your fishing line in Joburg

Here is a list of places you can go to enjoy a day of fishing in the city.

So, you consider yourself the next Jeremy Wade, always on the search for your next big fish.
But before you cast your fishing line, did you know that you cannot just fish anywhere in Joburg?

Though the city has a plethora of dams, it is only a few that you can fish at. The Joburg.co.za website gives an awesome list of parks and nature reserves where one can fish.

  • Fun Fishing (Rietvlei Lifestyle Centre)
    A fishing venue that is open seven days a week from 06:00 to 18:00 and public holidays too. There are carp, kurper, barbel and bass for catch and release.

  • Modderfontein Reserve
    Open during the week from 06:00 to 18:00. To fish you need to buy a ticket on Quicket.

  • Emmarentia Dam
    Catch and release fish such as bass, barbel and carp.
