Alexandra soccer fixture called off due to waterlogged pitch
The match between JBM FC and Pele Pele FC at Alexandra Stadium was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.
The highly anticipated clash between JBM FC and Pele Pele FC in the ABC Motsepe League at the Alexandra Stadium on April 5, was called off due to the condition of the soccer pitch. Owing to the recent inclement weather conditions, the waterlogged field was inspected and found unfit for use for the Saturday match.

Soccer fans, who were buzzing for kick-off, exited the stadium dejected after the match was suspended. The game was called off before the first whistle, with players from both teams already kitted up and on the field, warming up for what was set to be a crucial fixture.

Pele Pele coach Ofentse Mohomotsi said, although they came prepared to play, they respect the outcome of the inspection, which informed the officials’ decision to postpone the match. “We came here not knowing that the pitch was waterlogged, but from our side, we came prepared for the match. It’s a big fixture. We anticipated that we were going to play the match, but the weather conditions really affected the pitch. The officials assessed and made the final inspection, then the game was called off. So, we respect the decision.”

Although Pele Pele is currently sitting with 40 points, it faces the challenge of registering a win to get the requisite three points needed to tighten their grip on 6th position on the table, especially with the threat of Wits University FC looming behind with the equivalent number of points.
JBM has won only six of their matches since the start of the season, and also faces the tedious task of securing a win. Although it would not give JBM a push up the table, it would give them an opportunity to avert the looming danger of falling to the bottom two, should Opopo FC, which lingers behind with 23 points, register a win against Highlands Park.

JBM and Pele Pele are set to go head-to-head on April 15 at Alexandra Stadium.
Mohomotsi says the cancellation should serve as a lesson to ensure that there is always an alternative stadium reserved for big fixtures. “We need support from the management of the football fraternity, to give us alternative facilities so that we can proceed.”
