Reflecting on that ecstatic moment, Man D said the energy was soaring through the roof. “The crowd was vibing from the moment I hit the decks. Raised in Alexandra, a township grappling with a myriad of issues including poverty, crime and unemployment, Man D is not only on a mission to make people dance but to inspire young people within the community. “My community keeps me grounded and reminds me of why I started. I want my music to inspire the youth in Alex and beyond, to show them that greatness can rise from any corner.”
Man D shared that he drew inspiration from multi-award-winning artists such as Black Coffee. He noted that Black Coffee taught him that he could gain international respect by staying true to his roots. Even more important was the lesson he learned from the legendary DJ Oskido, which had been central to his mission as an artist, to uplift others.
He said currently he was working on improving his sound, and growing his brand beyond South Africa. Furthermore, his goal is to build a platform for upcoming DJs from the township.
