Speaking at the ceremony, Madolo said she chose to work in Alex years ago and never looked back. “I have been working in Alexandra for 41 years, that is where I started and that is where I am ending… I was working with the homeless and destitute, and it made my day.” She said she believes it was her mission station, a place where she was supposed to be. “I became fulfilled without even knowing. I just continued working, looking forward to reporting to duty and dealing with whatever cases that came.”

Reflecting on her decision to retire, she said she was not overwhelmed with excitement. She added that she considers it a stage she needs to take, in order to get her well-earned rest after 41 fruitful years of service to the Alex community. Her words about her successors were full of optimism and hope. “They will be able to do it even better, because they are exposed to more knowledge. I have seen, from the team that I am with, they are people who are willing to work. They are taking the bull by its horns. I feel that Alexandra is in good hands.”
