Run Alex junior’s coach commends runners for stellar performance
Run Alex juniors coach reflects on his team’s performance at the Daveyton 4th Cross Country league, and speaks about the team’s goal.
Run Alex juniors’ coach Ronny Ndlovu is proud of his team’s performance at the Daveyton 4th Cross Country League on June 28.
Although he is happy about the performance of his whole team, he said four did exceptionally well. They secured fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh place, underscoring their dedication and perseverance after weeks of practice.

“These are good positions, because cross country is about [getting] positions to qualify for the Central Gauteng Athletics and the Athletics South Africa Championships,” Ndlovu said.
While he commended his top athletes for their stellar performance, he believes that some could do more to improve their prospects of competing in the provincial and national competitions. “Those who were outside of the top six need to pull up their socks. They need to fight to be in the top six, to stand a chance of being selected for championships.”
Ndlovu said, now the team aims to have at least three or four juniors who qualify for the national championships, and that can only happen if they perform consistently and retain their top six positions.
Reflecting on the lessons learnt in their current cross-country league, Ndlovu emphasised that going forward they need to be more competitive, even in their training, and strive to push their own limits, even if it is painful. “They need to take the pain, so that, at competition events, it may become easy for them to keep up their pace. This will help them break their personal best. I think we are on the right track.”
