City Power embarks on yet another disconnection operation in Alexandra
Illegal connections in Riverpark flats spark intervention by City Power amid growing safety and infrastructure concerns.
City Power has announced the resumption of disconnection operations in Riverpark, Alexandra, targeting a block of flats that has been illegally drawing power directly from mini substations.
The utility describes the site as a major threat to the electricity grid, citing risks of network instability, frequent outages, and fire hazards.

“This particular site has been identified as a serious threat to the stability of the electricity network due to unauthorised connection,” City Power said in a statement. “These illegal connections not only overload infrastructure; they lead to frequent power outages and pose significant fire and safety risks.”

The utility noted that despite repeated outreach to the local community and multiple warnings issued in the past, the community still lacks compliance.
“In order to safeguard critical infrastructure, reduce risk to life and property, and restore order to the network, we will proceed with targeted disconnections,” the utility said.
City Power emphasised that the operation forms part of its broader plan to clamp down on illegal electricity connections in the city.
