Alex job seekers equipped to seize job opportunities

Alexandra job seekers get equipped with the necessary knowledge they need to step boldly into the labour market at the 5th Job Readiness Workshop at Alexandra Motswedi Skills Centre.

As unemployment continues to bite, the SA Job Seekers Movement is determined to reduce its impact on young people in Alexandra. The organisation, backed by partners including GALXCOC, Altron, Bongani Rainmaker Logistics, Rohlig Grindrod, and Tiber Construction, recently hosted a Job Readiness Workshop at the Alexandra Motswedi Skill Centre on July 8.

The 5th Job Readiness Workshop for 2025 was designed to empower young job seekers with the tools and insights they need to transition seamlessly into the labour market. This year’s workshop focused on three high-demand sectors, including Information Technology, Logistics, and Construction.

Far from a passive event, the workshop fostered engagement between speakers and attendees. It offered more than hope; it delivered concrete knowledge on job searching, market expectations, and application strategies.

A key session about crafting a compelling CV was led by senior human resources professional Tebogo Mohlampe from Altron, who shared expert advice on CV writing and internship opportunities. Attendees gained tips on how to tailor their CVs, understand recruiter priorities, and position themselves as solution-oriented candidates.

Mohlampe encouraged job seekers to use online resources like Google to prepare for interviews, and further noted that candidates should hesitate to ask for help if they are going to an interview.

“If you are going for an interview and you are not that confident and you need someone to prepare you, I am available. Use people like us to help you… If you are not sure how to answer a question, you are more than welcome to attempt to answer that question.”

She stressed the importance of demonstrating the ability to perform job-related tasks. In scenarios where a recruiter asks about an experience the candidate has not encountered, Mohlampe advised that candidates should honestly acknowledge that they have not faced that situation, but clearly explain how they would handle it if it arose.

In closing, she emphasised the value of building a professional presence online, urging attendees to leverage platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed.
