JBM FC coach salutes Gomora United FC’s playoff victory

JBM FC Coach Jackie ‘Styles’ Ledwaba applauds rivals Gomora United FC for lifting Alexandra’s pride with their playoff victory and promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

JBM FC coach Jackie ‘Styles’ Ledwaba has extended a message of congratulations to Gomora United FC for their stellar performance during the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs. Ledwaba praised the team for emerging victorious and securing Alexandra’s representation in the National First Division – now known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

“We are really proud of them,” Ledwaba shared. “They are flying the Gomora flag high. They have made us proud. I am sure Irvin Khoza is proud. We say let them continue to represent us well. They have got it.”

The two Alexandra-based clubs competed fiercely during the provincial league season, their rivalry marked by mutual respect. Their most recent clash, on March 22, saw Gomora United edge past JBM FC with a narrow 1–0 win, mirroring their previous 1–0 victory over JBM FC in 2024.

Despite consecutive derby defeats for his team, Ledwaba expressed nothing but pride for Gomora United’s advancement. To him, their playoff victory was not just about silverware; it was about restoring Alexandra’s footballing pride. “It should continue doing well. The games might get tough, but I know they have what it takes.”

His sentiments echo those of Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand, and Sandton Taxi Association’s vice secretary Thabo Lebuso, who previously told Alex News that Gomora’s impressive victory in the playoffs had the power to unite Alexandra’s residents under one shared celebration.

Just like any other team that was playing in the Gauteng league, JBM FC aspired to climbing to a better position by the end of the season. However, having lost 20 out of 34 matches, winning eight and drawing six, the path to promotion proved challenging. Still, Ledwaba remains hopeful. He sees Gomora United’s achievement as a source of inspiration, not only for his squad, but for the entire township football community.
