Emergency services respond to overnight blaze in Marlboro
According to the Gauteng Provincial Joint Operations Centre, emergency services responded to a fire incident along the Vasco Da Gama Street near Alexandra on Friday night. The fire reportedly affected multiple properties.
A large fire broke out on July 18 in Marlboro, near 5th Avenue and Florence Moposho Street—commonly referred to as Vasco Da Gama Street. The Gauteng Provincial Joint Operations Centre (JOC) issued an alert a minute after midnight confirming that emergency services were dispatched to the scene.

This was also confirmed by the City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Public Safety Mgcini Tshwaku. “City of Johannesburg EMS firefighters are currently battling a factory fire in Alexandra, working tirelessly to contain the blaze and protect surrounding infrastructure,” he shared.
Initial reports suggest that multiple properties may have been affected, though the extent of the damage or the number of affected properties has not yet been confirmed. Videos shared on social media show flames and thick smoke rising from the site, prompting concern from nearby residents who stood outside and watched the blaze in shock.

The cause of the fire has not been disclosed, and no official information has been released regarding injuries or property loss. As of Saturday morning, investigations into the cause of the fire are expected to follow.
