Gauteng health calls on residents to end drug abuse

The Gauteng Department of Health has intensified its campaign against substance abuse, warning that extended drug use places severe strain on essential organs and heightens cancer risk.

Medical evidence shows the liver bears the brunt of processing harmful substances, often resulting in scarring or failure. Kidneys struggle to filter toxins, leading to chronic impairment. The heart faces elevated chances of disease, including arrhythmias and failure.
In addition, prolonged exposure to certain drugs is directly linked to the onset of cancers affecting multiple body systems.

The Ke Moja programme provides immediate, confidential support through free counselling in various languages, with referrals to treatment centres countrywide.
Residents can access help by sending a WhatsApp message to 087 163 2025. The service operates nationally at no cost.
