Community leader and Alex Peace Ambassadors’ Thabo Mopasi calls on Alexandra residents to participate in the upcoming Alex G20 Mini Summit, set to take place on November 19.
Just days before the official G20 Leaders’ Summit, Alexandra will host a mini summit, placing community voices at the centre of global decision‑making.
The Alex G20 Mini Summit, which will take place on November 19 at the Alex‑Sankopano Community Centre, is set to spotlight sustainable development, amplify grassroots perspectives, and present a petition urging world leaders to act on climate change, social justice, and inclusive growth.

According to Alex Peace Ambassador’s Thabo Mopasi, the summit has already secured the support of fourteen organisations, reflecting the importance of Alexandra’s role in shaping conversations that extend far beyond its parameters.
At its core lies a draft declaration and petition addressed to the G20 nations. The draft declaration, which is currently open for comment, is meant to amplify local voices, inform the global agenda, and promote sustainable development and economic growth.
The petition urges G20 leaders to prioritise global co-operation for sustainable development, climate action and environmental protection, empowerment of marginalised communities, innovation to tackle global challenges, and stronger international co-operation.
This will serve as a direct appeal, ensuring that local voices inform international policy. The mini summit positions itself as a moral compass, reminding global leaders that sustainable development is not an abstract policy but a lived reality for millions of people in communities like Alexandra.
Mopasi emphasised the mini summit will serve as a platform where local voices can inform the global agenda, and promote development and economic growth in communities such as Alexandra.

“The summit is an opportunity for local leaders and stakeholders to come together and shape the future of sustainable development in their community.” He called on the community to participate in the upcoming mini summit, and make their contribution to the draft declaration.
Mopasi said the mini summit programme will feature plenary sessions, breakout discussions, and networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration between leaders and international stakeholders.
Expected outcomes include a finalised petition to G20 leaders, strengthened community empowerment, and a roadmap for sustainable growth, tailored to Alexandra’s unique challenges.
