Alex Royal Tigers prove why they top the log

Coach Banele Sangcozi, of the Alex Royal Tigers, says the Tigers’ dominance reflects hard work and consistency, though he admits opponents need to raise their competitiveness.

Alex Royal Tigers used the Saturday fixture against Happy Fighters to prove why they lead the log, securing an 11–1 victory in the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Promotional League.

Alex Royal Tigers coach Banele Sangcozi praised his side for striking early and setting the tone, although he believes that they could have scored a few more goals. He was quick to highlight both the positives and areas for improvement.

“I am happy with all aspects. Of course, we could have done more in terms of taking the ball forward in time and in speed, considering how we played in our very last game.”

Sangcozi explained that, although they managed to score six goals in their last game, they showed even greater intensity going forward this time. Their consistent winning streak has positioned them as one of the league’s strongest contenders.

Reflecting on their rout, the coach said it was a combination of working hard on their strengths and facing opponents who need to raise their competitiveness. “Some of the teams that we are playing with, without undermining them, we would say that they are weaker opponents.”

Scoring multiple goals in quick succession gave the Tigers a decisive edge over Happy Fighters, ensuring they never came close to equalising. Even the coach admitted there was no way the Fighters would catch up unless his side started to fumble.

Happy Fighters coach Amogelang Molapisi conceded that his team did not expect to concede so many goals, though they knew the game would be tough.

He said they went into the match prepared to work hard, and during half-time they addressed some issues. It was only in the second half that they managed their only goal. “They tried fighting in the second half.” Still, they conceded three additional goals.

“We have to do a lot of work. Some key players were not there. That is the thing we need to fix in training and see in the next game what is going to happen.”
