More than 3 000 learners of Ikage and Iphutheng primary schools in Alexandra recently received school shoes as part of the My Walk social and environmental initiative.
The project sponsored by Netcare and Adcock Ingram Critical Care produces fully recyclable high-quality school shoes for learners in need. The handover was done with the assistance of The Bryan Habana Foundation, while Habana himself shared some words of encouragement with the learners about their futures.
According to Habana, when he first heard about the project from Netcare CEO Dr Rihard Fiedland he had to get involved.
“When children have access to resources, starting with fundamental essentials like school shoes, and the opportunity to develop their skills, this makes life-changing differences for them and their community. The Habana Foundation aims to inspire young leaders to help create a world,” said Habana.
My Walk general manager Delanie Bezuidenhout added that having essential footwear could make a big difference in a child’s daily life, impacting their potential to make the most of the opportunities that education brought.
“Small steps today can set children on the path to achieving their dreams and ambitions for the future.
“We hope that by opening this sponsorship drive to the public and other businesses My Walk will be able to touch the lives of more children by gifting them with a pair of shoes, encouraging them to ‘step into greatness’ and grow the skills that will be crucial to empowering the next generation,” said Bezuidenhout.
