Alex amapiano hustling duo seeks help
Amapiano music duo in Alexandra appeals for corporate sponsorship to help it take its musical career to another level.
Aspiring township musicians have been urged to be extra careful when they approach recording studios before registering the intellectual property rights on their music.
The warning came from Amapiano music duo of Kairo Roughly and LoGo Roughly who have had their musical notes stolen from right under their feet by unscrupulous recording studios in the township.
“This has happened to us a number of times when we approached studios with some demos of our music for possible recording. Since we did not have enough cash to get the music produced, we then went around trying to source some cash and the next thing we heard our lyrics being played by some artists that we don’t know,” said Kairo, whose real name is Kamogelo Moqayi.

LoGo, whose birth name is Aphiwe Mankayi, said when they approached the studios about it, they simply deny any knowledge and claim they were still waiting for us to bring the cash and then proceed with the recordings.
“We would like to inform other up-and-coming music hustlers never to make the same mistake. They should always make sure when they approach recording studios, they must have already registered the intellectual property rights around the songs.
“This will ensure that when they hear someone else singing their songs, they will have the legal right to lay charges of copyright infringement and claim for compensation.”

Kairo said some of the musicians involved in the ‘music theft scandal’ have since gone on to make it big in the industry.
“Before you can even approach a recording studio, make sure you already own the music by registering the rights around it,” said the duo, who have since become ambassadors for the Antik clothing brand of Alexandra’s Thabiso Mokgale since June last year.
