Workshop training sessions empower Alex mechanics
Shell hosts a Mechanic Demonstration Day at Safe-Hub, Alexandra which aims to develop and train mechanics on the latest lubricants technology.
Alex motor mechanics received a boost when Shell Oil Company recently hosted a car service training workshop at the Totalsports Alex SafeHub.
Called the Mechanic Demonstration Day, the initiative was aimed at developing and offering mechanics training on the latest lubricants technology in the country, and also to empower the mechanics with the skills to better serve their communities.

“The day aims to enhance the expertise of the mechanics so they can better service their customers and propel their businesses forward. We believe through this event, we are not only upskilling mechanics, but also improve economic inclusivity in our communities,” said Rebecca Masoma, Shell B2C marketing lead said.
According to Masoma, the motor industry technology is constantly changing and as a company, they saw the need to offer mechanics access to the latest lubrication technology and also expose them to global best practices.

“We also enable them to access a pool of technical experts to give them the edge in the car servicing and mechanic industry and through this event, we aim to empower local mechanics,” she added.
Nthomeni Budzwa, mechanic and a spares shop owner at Marlboro, said; “Today we were invited by Shell to learn more about everything cars, engine, oil and lubricants.

“I deemed this day beneficial for us mechanics who are independent spare-shop owners because we are self-employed, and we need more exposure in a way that we get to be trustworthy owners, with trusted products.
“What I’m taking away with me today is the easy access to Shell products online and the ways we can verify the products we buy on the market. For instance, now if I have a car to fix and I’m not entirely sure which products I need to use, I can quickly go online to the Shell website and see the recommended products I can use and on which specific car,” Budzwa said.

According to Masoma, they wanted this day to be a platform for local mechanics to have access to Shell’s technical experts, to train mechanics on the latest and advanced technologies in the industry, and furthermore, to open opportunities for knowledge sharing among local mechanics and Shell’s car experts.
