Thabo Mopasi hosts Mini BRICS summit in Alexandra

Thabo Mopasi plans to present a Mini BRICS Summit in Alexandra where stakeholders will address critical issues in the township which they will submit the memorandum in the main summit.

Organiser, Thabo Mopasi and his team are planning to host the Mini BRICS Summit 2023 in Alexandra to facilitate meaningful interactions, discussions, and debates among 100 participants that will be addressing critical issues in the township which will be compiled into a memorandum for submission to the main BRICS summit.

The mini-summit will be held from August 22nd- 24th, at San Kopano with its aim to provide a platform for open dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders to address key issues faced by the township. Through interactive sessions, they aim to identify actionable solutions that will significantly impact the development and well-being of the community.

“We want to mobilise the community to be active in shaping their future and furthermore advance a course that community must raise their proposal to BRICS international leaders,” Mopasi said.

According to Mopasi the topics and agenda items to be discussed will be the following history of BRICS background and system of meritocracy, a conversation of South African position in BRICS and looking at BRICS opportunities that are available. Then delegates will divide into five commissions to focus on Sports Recreation Heritage Arts and Culture, health and environment, investing in food security, and education.

“The summit will contribute to the economic and social development which will best assist in the joint bidding to BRICS and again help as another alternative for funding, capacity building, and development of a degrading Alexandra township. This will also improve tourism that Alexandra its alternative destination to be visited by tourists and all other people that want to put their investments for good returns,” said Mopasi.

Mopasi advised the Alexandra people to talk and raise issues that affect them and ask global leaders to help them with these challenges. ‘Community members must not look inwards when they engage with media houses, they must talk frankly about pushing factors that lead them to be where they come from and subjects of values, resilience, ecosystem, social cohesion, peace and democratic system.’

According to Mopasi the Alexandra BRICS mini-summit will mobilise other areas and will turn to be mini-summits in Soweto, Hamanskraal, Tembisa and Katlehong as they will run a revolutionary agent of change, he also pleaded that other provinces to do the same as the 15th BRICS Summit should focus on people’s development. ‘Masses of our people deserve their voice to be heard’.
