Pastors turn to football to forge friendships
In an effort to forge common ground, Alex pastors have changed gears and included football in their ministries.
Pastors from Alexandra have turned to football as one way of ministry and forging unity in the religious communities of Gauteng and surrounds.
One of many matches envisaged between pastors from various communities, kicked off the start of a pastors’ soccer frenzy with a game between Alex pastors and their counterparts from Daveyton on October 14 in Alexandra.
Organised by Alex pastors Bafana Tshabalala and Sello Vince of Lesedi Community Church and St Messiah’s Ministries respectively, one of the pastors in the game, Andrew Tshikota of the Army of Worship Bible Church in Alexandra, described the game as full of love and fun and aimed at fostering unity and peace among pastors in Gauteng.
Through the games, Tshikota said they aimed at ensuring a close working relationship between pastors in the province as per the teachings of the Holy Scriptures in the Bible and to be able to serve God with one goal and vision.
“We also had man-to-man talks for a few minutes before the kick-off and we hope this will also encourage young boys in the church, especially those who love and play soccer, to join us in the game of soccer and create fun for our sons.
“We would love to see many more pastors and brothers from Alexandra coming to join us in these games,” Tshikota added.
The nimble-footed Daveyton pastors emerged victorious, beating the Alex pastors 13–9. “We look forward to another game of Alex pastors versus their counterparts from Mamelodi which will be announced soon.” Contributions of R100 were made by those with the means towards a braai and drinks. after the game.
