Cinema closures will not affect us, says Primestars’ Martin Sweet
Amid recent announcements of Ster Kinekor cinema closures, Primestars assures the public of its uninterrupted operations and outlines contingency plans, partnerships and commitment to empowering youth through education.
As the news of Ster Kinekor closing some of its cinemas has raised concerns among movie-goers, Primestars assured its members and the public that its What About the Boys? programmes will continue without disruptions.
Primestars has numerous engagements with boys from Alexandra schools on the programme, including those of the Afrika Tikkun NPC, and are usually held at Ster Kinekor cinemas countrywide.

Primestars managing director Martin Sweet said, “The company remains dedicated to its mission of empowering youth through education and has prepared contingency plans to mitigate any potential impact from the cinema closures.
“Primestars’ flexibility to substitute certain venues with Nu Metro cinemas and utilise its ‘mobile cinema’ model ensures that programme delivery will not be affected. In cases where Ster Kinekor sites are impacted, alternative arrangements are in place to guarantee a seamless transition and uninterrupted service.”

He added Primestars’ partnership extended beyond Ster Kinekor, with national collaborations in place with Nu Metro and Movies@ cinema groups. This diversified approach to venue selection allows the company to continue its programmes regardless of changes in individual cinema chains.
“It is important to note that Ster Kinekor cinema closures will not happen immediately. The company is consulting with landlords and executing the closures in a phased manner, allowing ample time for Primestars to adjust and plan accordingly.”
