Kids Haven reflects on 2024

As 2024 concludes, Kids Haven remains committed to uplifting and caring for vulnerable children, with the support of the community.

As the year draws to a close, Kids Haven in Bryanston reflects on a remarkable 2024, marked by achievements and a continued commitment to supporting vulnerable children.

Sam Mokgopha, CEO of Kids Haven, highlighted the organisation’s focus on providing shelter, protection, education, training, and therapy for children in need, particularly those without parental care.

One of the standout accomplishments of the year was the expansion of the gender-based violence prevention programme.

“Strengthening our partnerships with local businesses for our youth programme has been crucial. Through initiatives like the Youth Hub and our Pathways programme, we are opening doors for our young people to gain valuable work experience, which is essential for their development.”

He added that Ilka Stein, the Youth Hub manager, has been instrumental in fostering these connections, emphasising the ongoing need for business engagement in support of youth empowerment.

Looking ahead to the festive season, Kids Haven has specific wishes that would greatly enhance the holiday experience for the children.

“We want our community and local businesses to help us create memorable outings for our children during the December holidays.”

He said trips to the movies, picnics, and visits to attractions such as Gold Reef City or the zoo would bring joy to the children’s lives.

Mokgopha also noted the financial strain that comes with the start of the new school year.

“School fees, uniforms, stationery kits, and textbooks can be burdensome, so we welcome donations that can help alleviate these costs.”

A key figure in the organisation’s success this year has been Susan Daly, the fundraising manager.

Mokgopha commended her and her team for their exceptional efforts.

“This year has been particularly challenging financially, yet Susan’s dedication ensured we remained supported by our generous community. Her work has also strengthened our relationship with Engineers Without Borders, paving the way for long-term strategies that will benefit Kids Haven.”

As 2024 concludes, Kids Haven remains steadfast in its mission to uplift and care for vulnerable children.

“With the support of the community, the organisation looks forward to continuing its vital work, ensuring that each child receives the protection and opportunities they deserve.”
