Hijacked Ford Ranger recovered in Alexandra following joint effort
Swift collaboration between JMPD, SAPS, and private security led to the recovery of a hijacked vehicle in Alexandra.
A hijacked white Ford Ranger was successfully located and recovered in Alexandra on Friday, May 2, thanks to a joint operation involving the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tracing Unit, the South African Police Service (SAPS) Flying Squad, and private security personnel.

The recovery operation was initiated after JMPD officers, who were managing traffic along Pretoria Main Road, were approached by security personnel at a Sasol garage. A member of the Fidelity Tactical Team alerted them to a recent and violent hijacking that had taken place in Ebony Park. The victim had sustained brutal injuries during the incident. JMPD officers immediately contacted emergency medical services to attend to the victim.

While emergency services were en route, JMPD officers quickly circulated the details of the stolen Ford Ranger. Utilising Vuma Cam technology, they were able to trace the vehicle’s last known location. With the crucial assistance of members from the SAPS Flying Squad, the hijacked vehicle was successfully tracked down in Alexandra.
Following its recovery, the Ford Ranger was transported to the Aeroton vehicle pound for further processing as part of the ongoing investigation.
The victim of the hijacking was taken to Edenvale Hospital by Gauteng Emergency Medical Services to receive necessary medical attention for their injuries.
The JMPD has publicly commended the rapid response and collaborative efforts of its officers, as well as the invaluable support provided by the SAPS members and the Fidelity Tactical Team security officer. Their dedication and teamwork were highlighted as instrumental in the successful recovery of the stolen vehicle.
The investigation into the hijacking incident is continuing, with authorities actively following all leads to identify and apprehend the suspects responsible for the crime.
