Sassa confirms August grant dates and urges beneficiaries to update personal details

Millions of South Africans will begin receiving their social grants tomorrow but Sassa is calling on beneficiaries to review and update their personal information to avoid payment disruptions and improve communication.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that social grants for August 2025 will be paid out during the first week of the month. More than 19 million beneficiaries are expected to receive their payments between 5 and 7 August 2025.

The payment schedule is as follows:

  • Older persons grant: Tuesday, 5 August
  • Disability grant: Wednesday, 6 August
  • Children’s grants: Thursday, 7 August

SASSA administers a range of grants including the Older Persons’ Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support Grant, Foster Care Grant, Care Dependency Grant, and the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant.

Grant Amounts for August 2025:

  • Old Age (60–74) and Disability Grants – R2 315
  • Old Age (75 and older) – R2 335
  • War Veterans and Care Dependency Grants – R2 315
  • Foster Child Grant – R1 250
  • Child Support Grant – R560
  • Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant – R370

In addition to announcing the payment dates, SASSA has urged all beneficiaries to cooperate with the current grant review process.

The agency emphasised that this process is routine and necessary to update personal information and ensure continued eligibility and efficient communication.

Beneficiaries who have been contacted for review are encouraged to visit their nearest SASSA local office with the following documents:

  • Valid South African ID (13-digit barcoded ID or smart ID card)
  • Proof of income, such as payslips, pension slips, or an affidavit if unemployed
  • Bank statements for the last three months (for all active accounts)
  • Proof of residence, such as a utility bill or letter from a local authority
  • Marriage certificate or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Death certificate (if applicable, for example, for a deceased child or spouse)
  • Any other documents relevant to the grant type: Birth certificates (for Child Support Grants) and proof of school attendance (for Foster Care Grants)
