CPF meeting to spotlight crime in Sector 4

Alexandra residents will not only get an overview of crime in Sector 4, but also an opportunity to engage directly with the police at the CPF Sector 4 meeting, which is set to take place at Altrec on Wednesday afternoon.

Alexandra CPF Sector 4 is expected to give residents a clearer picture of crime in the sector and insight into their plans to address it during its upcoming meeting, which will be held at Altrec Sports Complex on February 25 at 17:00.

CPF Sector 4 chairperson Sandile Mavundla said that they will confront core issues at the meeting, particularly crime statistics. Referring to the third quarter crime stats, he expressed concern that Alexandra ranks among the top 30 stations nationwide for serious crimes, including carjacking, kidnapping, and murder.

“The meeting will provide clarity from those executing the task at hand, especially the station commander and his team,” he said.

Residents can expect the crime report to cover incidents dating back to the festive season. In a previous Sector 3 meeting, for example, the report spanned December to February. Mavundla emphasised that several incidents in Sector 4, including school break-ins, have to be investigated.

The meeting will also give residents with long-standing cases an opportunity to seek clarity directly from the police. Mavundla said the gathering will serve as an ‘accountability meeting.’ He urged residents to attend the meeting.

Mavudla shared that after the meeting, Sector 4 will host an additional meeting attended by key stakeholders, including pastors, ward councillors, proportional representation councillors, and property owners, among others. The meeting will serve as a crucial platform for stakeholders to draw up a crime mitigation plan to assist the community in tackling crime.
