Two teenage suspects shot in attempted carjacking incident
A failed carjacking along Pretoria Main Road leaves two teenage suspects, aged 16 and 17, with gunshot wounds.
Two suspects, aged 16 and 17, were shot and apprehended in Alexandra after a foiled carjacking attempt along Pretoria Main Road on July 7.
Another suspect, according to police, fled the scene and is currently being sought by authorities. The incident occurred at about midday.
Constable Dakalo Phemula stated that it is alleged the suspects attempted to carjack a vehicle, during which a shooting took place, leaving the two teenagers injured.
One was found lying at the busy intersection of Pretoria Main Road and Florence Mophosho Road, while the other was discovered on a driveway along 4th Avenue.
“The injured suspects were transported to a medical facility under police guard for treatment.” Their current condition has not yet been publicly released.

Preliminary reports from one of the officials on scene suggested that four suspects allegedly attempted the hijacking. However, the police’s post‑incident statement provided key clarifications, confirming that only three suspects were involved.
Furthermore, Phemula described the shooting as occurring between the victim and the suspects, rather than involving a private security officer as initially reported by officials and eyewitnesses on the ground.
Multiple cartridges were recovered from the scene, and SAPS investigations are continuing to establish the full sequence of events.
