Gauteng provincial joint operations centre warns of icy conditions for Gauteng

Motorists urged to prepare for cold, wet and potentially hazardous roads as snow is expected in areas bordering Gauteng over the coming days.

Snowfall is possible in regions neighbouring Gauteng in the coming days, with significant falls expected in some areas that could disrupt travel routes, according to Snow Report SA.

The Gauteng provincial joint operations centre (JOC) issued an icy conditions advisory on July 27, warning that data remains volatile, particularly for major routes such as the N3 freeway in the Free State.

While no confirmed major disruptions have been reported yet, authorities are monitoring the situation closely for any snowfalls or dangerous road conditions.

Travellers are advised to remain alert for cold, icy, and wet roads, which can reduce visibility and make driving hazardous, especially overnight.

Those planning to travel during this period are encouraged to drive according to prevailing road and weather conditions, pack warm clothing and blankets, and carry extra food, drinking water, and other essential supplies in case of unexpected delays. Motorists should also remain vigilant for changing conditions and any hazards along their route.

The Gauteng provincial JOC said it would continue monitoring the situation and issue further updates as needed.

Residents and motorists are urged to stay alert for the latest road, weather, and safety information.
