Widespread snowfall is possible across all provinces, including Gauteng, from August 9 until August 11, according to advanced forecasts by Snow Report SA.

The Gauteng provincial joint operations centre (JOC) issued a snow and icy conditions advisory on August 4, noting that while forecasts may still change, disruptive travel conditions remain possible in affected areas.

With August 10 being a public holiday, many people are expected to travel over the long weekend. Those planning journeys through high-lying or known snowfall areas are encouraged to monitor updated weather forecasts and road conditions before setting out.

Snow, ice, and reduced visibility may lead to hazardous driving conditions, road closures, and significant delays.

Travellers intending to hit the roads are advised to check the latest weather and road conditions before departure, delay non-essential journeys if severe weather develops, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy with sufficient fuel.

They should also carry warm clothing, drinking water, food, prescribed medication, a fully charged mobile phone, and follow instructions from law enforcement and emergency services if road closures or diversions are put in place.
