Sasol garage shooting victim confirmed as Gauteng SANTACO discipline chief
Taxi industry leader Jabulani Ntshangase, known for his work resolving disputes across Johannesburg's taxi associations, has been confirmed as the victim of a shooting at a Marlboro garage.
Jabulani Ntshangase, the provincial head of discipline for the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) Gauteng, was shot and killed at a Sasol garage on Marlboro Drive on July 31, provincial public relations officer Graham Fritz confirmed on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson in the Johannesburg District Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlhane confirmed, on Monday, that the police launched a murder investigation after the victim, who has now been identified as Ntshangase, was shot and killed by two armed suspects while waiting for his bodyguards at the garage.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Santaco Gauteng confirmed that the man killed in the attack was Ntshangase, saying it had received the news with profound shock and deep sadness.
Santaco Gauteng said it strongly condemns the killing, calling it a senseless act of violence, and appealing to the South African Police Service to conduct a thorough and urgent investigation to arrest those responsible and bring them to justice.
“His passing represents a tremendous loss to Santaco Gauteng and the broader public transport industry. His courage, leadership, and dedication to advancing the interests of the taxi industry have left a lasting legacy that will be remembered with gratitude and respect.”
Ntshangase, according to the statement, held several leadership positions within the taxi industry, including head of conflict resolution within the greater Johannesburg region and grievance officer of the Alexandra Taxi Association.

“His unwavering commitment to resolving disputes, promoting discipline, and fostering unity earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and stakeholders across the industry.”
On behalf of the Santaco Gauteng provincial executive committee, member associations, and the wider taxi industry, the organisation extended condolences to the Ntshangase family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones, and expressed solidarity with the Alexandra Taxi Association, the greater Johannesburg region, and all those affected.
Tshetlhane said the motive for the killing had not yet been established, and investigations were underway to trace and apprehend the suspects.
