SAPS Johannesburg Flying Squad arrested a domestic worker on August 8, following the recovery of a stolen 9mm Glock firearm and ammunition in Alexandra.

According to a statement, members of the flying squad acted on information about the stolen firearm and proceeded to Westcliff, where a complainant identified the suspect.

After questioning the suspect, officers travelled to the suspect’s residence in Alexandra, where they recovered the firearm and ammunition.

The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and detained at Parkview SAPS for investigation.

In separate operations over the same period, the flying squad recovered three vehicles that had been stolen from their owners, and one that was reportedly used in the commission of a crime.

The statement revealed that around 01:00, while patrolling the corner of Chariots of Fire Street and Awards Street in Alexandra, officers located a White VW Polo 8. The vehicle was transferred to the pound for safekeeping and investigation.

At approximately 11:00, members recovered an abandoned White Toyota Vitz on Malope Lane and 12th Avenue, also in Alexandra, the statement revealed. Later, at around 20:00, officers patrolling Sandton City received information about a White Toyota Etios, allegedly used in a firearm-related incident.

The squad traced the vehicle to level B parking at Sandton City. It was booked at the pound with a Norwood CAS number pending investigation.

On August 9, while patrolling in Alexandra, the squad recovered an abandoned grey Honda Amaze at the intersection of 7th Avenue and Florence Mophosho Road.

The vehicle had reportedly been stolen and was subsequently booked at the pound.

All four vehicles remain in police custody.
