Women heal without judgment at peer-led sessions at Thusong Youth Centre

Grounded in dignity, trust, and compassion, these voluntary sessions offer a supportive environment, centred on dialogue, art, and connection, and allowing you to heal at your own pace, surrounded by women who understand your journey.

A peer-led healing programme is offering women in Alexandra a judgment-free environment to share their stories and explore wellness through dialogue, art, and connection.

Is’camtho So’ Mshoza, hosted at Thusong Youth Centre, runs from 10:00 to 13:00, focusing on creating psychological safety first. The sessions are voluntary and participant-led, with activities that include dialogue, art, and wellness.

Mantala Nkoase, one of the founders, outlined the approach behind the programme. “Is’camtho So’ Mshoza is a peer-led healing space grounded in dignity, trust, and compassion.

“We believe that healing begins when women are able to share their stories without fear of judgment, diagnosis, or pressure to change. The programme is not designed as an intervention that tells participants what they should or should not do, instead, it offers a welcoming environment where women are listened to, seen, and supported exactly where they are.

“Our approach is trauma-informed, participant-led, and strengths-based. Women are invited to explore healing at their own pace, while building meaningful connections with others who share similar lived experiences.

“Participation is voluntary, and referrals to counselling, rehabilitation, healthcare, or other services are made only when requested by the participant, or when there is an immediate risk of harm to themselves or others.

“Our priority is to create psychological safety before introducing external support. We believe that trust is the foundation upon which healing, hope, and personal transformation can grow.”

The initiative is in association to Thusong Youth Centre and the Sankofa organisation, bringing the sessions into a familiar community space where women can gather, talk, and support one another without pressure.

Local women are invited to join the peer-led sessions at Thusong Youth Centre and experience a space built on listening, connection, and respect.
