Learners, don’t miss out, these universities are still open for 2027 applications

Prospective students have until the end of September or October to apply to a number of institutions, with some offering free applications.


Several South African universities are still accepting applications for the 2027 academic year.

While some universities have already closed their windows, others are accepting applications until September 30.

These include:

  • University of the Free State (free application),
  • University of the Witwatersrand (R100 for South African applicants, R700 for international applicants),
  • University of the Western Cape (free application),
  • North-West University (free application),
  • Nelson Mandela University (free application),
  • Central University of Technology (free application),
  • Cape Peninsula University of Technology (free online),
  • Tshwane University of Technology (R240),
  • University of Limpopo (R200 for South African applicants, R750 for international applicants), and
  • Central Applications Office (KwaZulu-Natal – UKZN, DUT, MUT and UNIZULU).

Others still will continues accepting applications until October 31.

These include:

  • University of Johannesburg (free application),
  • Walter Sisulu University (free application), and
  • UNISA’s main distance-learning window, which usually runs through November.
    Applications have already closed at the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University (both on July 31) and at the University of Pretoria for most selection programmes (June 30).

Health sciences and medicine programmes are closed across almost all institutions.

Applicants need a certified copy of their South African ID or passport, a certified copy of their final Grade 11 results, stamped by the school, an active email address, and a mobile number.
