Date for Telkom Knockout final announced
JOBURG - The Telkom Knockout final will be played on Reconciliation Day, 16 December, at a venue still to be announced.
Premier Soccer League CEO, Brand de Villiers said the league had to move the final date to mid-December to accommodate the South African U23 side that will participate in the Confederations of African Football (Caf) mini-tournament on 28 and 29 November as part of the Rio 2016 Olympics qualification.
“The league took a decision to rally behind the U23s in their bid to qualify for Rio Olympics and, as part of our agreement with the South African Football Association [Safa], we suspended both league and cup competition fixtures during this period,” said De Villiers.
“This also necessitated a decision on our side to move the Telkom Knockout final to 16 December,” he said, expressing his gratitude to the sponsors and broadcast partners for their understanding of the need to rally behind the U23 boys and postpone the event.
“The venue and kick-off time for the final will be announced in due course,” De Villiers added.
The quarterfinals of the knockout will be played on 24 and 25 October, while the semifinal will be played on 7 and 8 November.
