Grassroots women in sports upskilled
JOBURG – Betway ambassador Simphiwe ‘Shorty’ Dludlu has words of advice for grassroots sportswomen.

The leadership skills programme being run for women in grassroots sporting bodies is expected to go a long way towards improving the administrative skills within those organisations.
This is the view held by Betway ambassador and coach of the U17 women’s national team Simphiwe ‘Shorty’ Dludlu who spoke to sports journalists soon after her address to the participants of a workshop at Gauteng Sports House on the premises of Johannesburg Stadium.

Dludlu, an Alex resident and former captain of Banyana Banyana, believes it is critical for sportswomen at grassroots level to be empowered with such skills as they are at the coalface of sports development in their communities.
“All the professional sports personalities we celebrate, past and present, including those still yet to come, were nurtured by the very same grassroots organisations.

“Women have an ace card when it comes to nurturing, as they are born nurturers themselves in their own homes. They nurture their kids from birth to adulthood and they should use this skill to the best of their advantage in community sports,” she said.

She urged the course attendees not to view other people who join their sports bodies as a threat but should welcome them with open arms as they bring with them a wealth of different skills, ideas and thinking that will ultimately benefit the institution.
