Pirates to kick-start matches in defence of Nedbank Cup

JOBURG - Orlando Pirates, the reigning Nedbank Cup champions will kick-off their defence of the trophy against minnows Tornado Football Club on 18 February.

The Second Division Mdantsane-based side from East London which is coached by former Pirates striker Jerry ‘Legs of Thunder’ Skhosana, hope to come out triumphant after the match at the iconic Orlando Stadium in Orlando East, Soweto.

The Buccaneers encounter with Tornado will be the first of two matches of the Nedbank Cup’s last 32. The other will pit Mpumalanga Black Aces against fellow Absa Premiership side Maritzburg United at the Mbombela Stadium. Both matches will kick-off at 7.30pm.

Two days later, AmaZulu will host relegated National First Division (NFD) neighbours Golden Arrows in a Durban derby at Princess Magogo Stadium at 8pm.

Seven fixtures will be staged on 21 February followed by four fixtures on 22 February. The last fixtures of the round of 32 will be played on 25 February and a draw for the round of 16 teams will then be conducted on a date still to be announced.

Kaizer Chiefs will take on the winner of the African All Stars/ Edu Sports Football Club clash. The match will be at the FNB Stadium, while Chippa United will host little-known Natal United FC at the Wolfson Stadium.

At Thohoyandou Stadium the local Limpopo side, Black Leopards will host visiting Western Cape outfit FC Cape Town, while another amateur side from Limpopo Phiva Young Stars will be up against NFD team Jomo Cosmos at KaMhlushwa Stadium.

Another Limpopo outfit, Bellevue Winners Park will be at Giyani Stadium against NFD team Western Cape side, Vasco da Gama.

Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane will be home for Mamelodi Sundowns when they host Richards Bay-based NFD side Thando Royal Zulu, with the last match of the day being the clash between Absa Premiership rivals Bidvest Wits up against Free States at the Bidvest Stadium in Milpark.

All seven matches will staged on 21 February with kick-off set for 3pm, with the exception of the Sundowns-Thanda and Wits-Free States matches which are set to kick-off at 5.30pm and 8.15pm respectively.
