WATCH: Alex coaches earn their stripes

ALEXANDRA - Over thirty coaches from the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association honed their skills during the South Africa Football Association (Safa) level 3 coaching course held at the Alexandra Stadium.

More than 30 coaches from the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association (Anfla) honed their skills during the South Africa Football Association (Safa) level 3 coaching course recently held at Alexandra Stadium.

The course was part of Safa’s 2022 vision in which they aim to train over 20 000 coaches throughout the country. The five-day course also saw two former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeepers, Brain Baloyi and Rowen Fernandez taking part, together with Alexandra coaches from different Anfla clubs.

One of the course conductors was Augastine Makalakalane, a former footballer who played at both international and professional level as a midfielder, and also earned 14 caps for Bafana Bafana.

Anfla chairperson, Maisha Molepo, was delighted that Alex coaches also benefitted from such opportunities and hoped that the coaches would give back the knowledge they gained to their respective clubs.

“The key here is to make sure that everybody is developed and educated in terms of taking Alexandra Football to the next level. Our coaches need to go back and plough what they have learnt in this course to their clubs and make sure that we are able to produce players that can play at a professional level,” he said.

Molepo also added that the association has officially been given the go-ahead to run the school’s football league in Alexandra, and some of the coaches who completed the course would be deployed to schools in Alex.

Thembinkosi Matholengwe, Alex Royal Tigers coach, who also took part in the course, thanked the association for the opportunity and promised they would revive football in Alexandra.

“We have learnt a lot during this course in terms of how to develop kids and update them in training sessions. We are going to change football development in Alexandra,” said Matholengwe.
