Mhlaba FC eyes Hollywoodbets Regional League spot

Mhlaba FC coach Ndabezinhle Mhlaba is confident his side can climb from fourth place to the summit of the ANLFA Promotional League log, especially with games in hand and a burning ambition to secure their place in the coveted Hollywoodbets Regional League.

Although Mhlaba FC is currently fourth on the log with 31 points following Monday’s victory against Laz FC, Mhlaba FC coach Ndabezinhle Mhlaba said he is determined to taste competition in the Hollywoodbets Regional League.

He believes the prospects of rising to first place are strong, especially since the log leaders, Alex Royal Tigers and second-placed Raiders FC, are fewer than 10 points ahead. He said that if any of the top three teams slip up, his side is ready to overtake them.

“My target is to win all the remaining games, especially against the teams at the top of the log. We want to experience Hollywoodbets and see how it is on the other side,” he said.

The coach added that if his team wins all their remaining fixtures, he is confident they will occupy first place. “We have played 13 games, and today was our 14th, while other teams are already on their 17th. That means we have a few games in hand. If we win them all, we will rise to the top.”

However, that ambition will depend on stronger performances than the one against Laz.

Despite Laz sitting 13th on the log with 11 points, they gave Mhlaba FC a tough challenge.

As soccer fanatics would know, teams at the bottom often fight harder to reach the top eight and avoid relegation. Mhlaba admitted his side had underestimated Laz. “When we looked at the log and the position of Laz compared to ours, I think we relaxed, and we conceded a goal in the first two minutes.”

While Mhlaba FC eventually secured a 3-1 victory and the crucial three points, their position is far from secure. LRC FC and Western Boys FC trail closely with 27 and 25 points, respectively.

“If they had won and we had lost, we would have dropped to sixth or seventh. Luckily, we won,” Mhlaba said.

He knows that as he pursues his dreams of toppling the teams that are currently at the summit of the ANLFA Promo log, he has to equally keep watch over those trailing closely behind, undoubtedly with a similar agenda of occupying his current position.
