United Stars slip again in relegation fight after 0-1 loss to Armor FC

Despite a determined push for goals, United Stars FC suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to Armor FC in their Hollywoodbets regional league clash at the Alex Safe Hub, leaving them stuck in the relegation zone.

Despite their relentless push for goals, United Stars FC fell 0-1 to Armor FC in their Hollywoodbets regional league match at the Alex Safe Hub on Friday.

The Stars, who remain precariously in the relegation zone, know that every fixture could provide them with a lifeline. Yet, they continue to drop crucial points in their fight for survival this season.

Stars coach Sakhile Zulu said his team entered the game with a clear intention to score, but his side struggled to find the net.

“The problem with my team is that most of the players are young. They are still learning that if they dribble on the side and put the ball into the box, anyone can hit that ball and it can be a goal,” Zulu explained.

He emphasised that his players often dribble out of the penalty area instead of driving straight into it. His strategy was to press them to attack from the flanks into the box, hoping to draw fouls from the opposition.

That approach seemed to work better in the second half, with Armor FC conceding several free kicks.

“It was only after I fumed and showed them that I just want a goal that they started to get more balls into the box,” Zulu said.

Still, his young squad could not find the breakthrough they desperately needed.

On the other side, Armor FC coach Sam Mtambo expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance.

“I was very happy with the goal because we are at a stage where we have to grind for results. It was not a good game, but we fought and got three points in the bag,” Mtambo said.

Armor FC currently sit ninth on the log with 38 points. Mtambo believes the win will boost their confidence after two consecutive 2-2 draws. His ambition is to push the team up to fourth place, though it will be difficult with tough fixtures ahead, including a clash against Gomtown Boyz FC, who are second on the log.

“I am just hoping and praying we reach that position so that we can play in the Nedbank qualifications,” he added.
