ALEXANDRA - A new king of primary schools football will be crowned on 11 November when MC Weiler takes on Dr Knak in the finals of the Discovery Alex Schools League.

The two teams destroyed all before them to advance to the finals, with MC Weiler brushing aside two-time and current champions of the competition, Iphutheng 3-2 on sudden death penalty kicks.
The other perennial powerhouse of Alex primary schools football, Dr Knak, did not need penalties as they easily disposed of high-flying Zenzeleni 2-0 in regulation time.
This was despite Zenzeleni having amassed the highest number of points in the group stages, with 14 points from five games and had been earmarked as the team to watch in the semis.
The million dollar question is whether it will be Dr Knak or MC Weiler who will be crowned new champions. But come 11 November, all will be revealed, and I personally will put my money on Dr Knak to claim the title.
However, MC Weiler should not be written off. The school has one of the best state-of-the-art football pitches in Alexandra, and this has begun to pay off handsomely with the school’s soccer teams going from being the whipping boys of Alex primary schools football to a force to be reckoned with.
