An Alex young man is billed to dazzle audiences at this year’s Human Rights Day celebration at Freedom Park, Pretoria.
Lebogang Sekute (29) born and bred in Alexandra will be showcasing his repertoire of Khoisan dance, song and acting with other artists in front of hundreds of local and international guests gathered to celebrate this important national event.
A professional choreographer, dancer and entrepreneur, Sekute developed his love for Khoisan cultural art and dance when he was 11 because of their strong focus on environmental preservation.
His desire is to use Khoisan culture as a model to promote environmental awareness among the future generation.
Expressing delight at the opportunity, Sekute said “Most times, Alex is know for all the wrong reasons like crime, grime, gangsterism and overcrowding. This event will be a good platform for me to expose the world to positive aspects of youth talent from Alexandra, and its capability to portray the positives from our cultural diversity.”
Sekute was identified by the Braamfontein-based Kwasukasukela Story Telling Company while performing his Khoisan act at the Cradle of Humankind. He has also performed at the Arts and Culture Festival in Alex, on Zola 7, So you think You Can Dance and SA’s Got Talent TV shows and at the SA Film Awards.
He runs his own Khoisan Academy School at Thusong Centre, 12th Avenue, Alexandra where he exposes children to Khoisan and other forms of dance and music to keep them away from social dangers like drug and alcohol abuse, and teenage pregnancy.
