Jabu ‘Shuffle’ Mahlangu is set to return to top flight football after completing a move to SuperSport United until the end of the season.

Mahlangu has been training with the club since the start of the year and has shown a lot of progress in training and reserve team games. The immensely talented and popular Mahlangu has also been involved in the club’s marketing activities as Matsatsantsa steadily continue to grow their fan base.

The former Bafana Bafana international is set to make his first appearance for Matsatsantsa in the Absa Premiership fixture against Platinum Stars at the Lucas Moripe stadium.

“It’s something I’m excited about and now it has finally happened,” said Mahlangu. “I am very lucky because I got a second chance at my age. I am happy that SuperSport has decided to give me another chance because I can see what the club are trying to do on and off the field. To be part of something with this growth is exciting to me.”

Referring to his his three-month contract, Mahlangu said he wanted to help the club grow regardless of the length of his stay. “I don’t expect to come into this team and play in every single game. I don’t expect to start. I have to work for that,” he said.

“It may be short-term with me as a player, but I’ll be assuming other roles in the longer term with SuperSport United,” said the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder who earned himself the nickname ‘Ngwana watshweny’ for his wayward behaviour off the pitch.

United coach Cavin Johnson expressed his delight with the new signing. “This is an exciting day for the club because as you know Jabu is a huge talent and can help fast-track our younger players in terms of his vision and flair, and at the end of the day he can turn tight games into points for us and help us with a strong finish to the season,” Johnson said.
