Watch: Hands off our milk tart, South Africans tell Martha Stewart
The internet is in a bit of a stir after a recipe for 'desperation pie' saw South Africans unite to defend their beloved milk tart.
American retail businesswoman, writer, and TV personality Martha Stewart has found herself in a bit of a jam after posting a video on TikTok.
In it, Stewart shares a recipe for ‘desperation pie’, but South Africans weren’t having a piece of it, and rather opted to take a bite at Stewart, stating that the ‘pie’ is a milk tart and that the only thing it is desperate for is a bit of cinnamon.
These, and thousands of other comments, echo the sentiments of user @Nomziey who commented: “Sounds the call to come together 🇿🇦😂.”
Another user, @Cidcinnabuns, added: “South Africans Unite 🇿🇦 Here to defend the honour of our milk tart.”
Though subtle differences exist — like adding cinnamon to milk tart or using vinegar or buttermilk in desperation pie for tang — the similarities remain undeniable. However, ‘united we shall stand’ and defend our melktert‘s honour!
