The white Toyota Quantum which was reportedly hijacked and found abandoned in McKenzie Park by members of Benoni Flying Squad.

With the assistance of the Edenvale community, Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) recovered a vehicle believed to have been used in an armed robbery.

On April 25, BFS members arrested one suspect for the possession of a vehicle wanted for an armed robbery and another for the possession of drugs.

BFS communications officer WO Grant Giblin said members were informed about the vehicle at 12:00 when a white Hyundai Elantra was flagged by cameras near the corner of Fountain and Terrace roads.

“The vehicle was allegedly wanted in connection with an armed robbery case reported at Cleveland SAPS during April,” said Giblin.

Giblin said while tracing the vehicle, officers verified the information.

He said the suspect found with the Elantra was detained at Cleveland SAPS while the vehicle was impounded at Aeroton.

“This success emphasises the value of partnerships between SAPS and community initiatives,” said Giblin.

At around the same time, flying squad officers involved in a separate incident arrested a suspect in Thembisa for the possession of narcotics.

Giblin said the suspect, arrested in Mayibuye Section, was found in the possession of 13 packets of cocaine.

Continuing with its success, officers recovered two abandoned hijacked vehicles.

Giblin said a white Toyota Quantum, reported to Benoni SAPS, was recovered in McKenzie Park, while a grey Volkswagen Polo, reported to Actonville SAPS, was recovered in Wattville.
