Klopperpark Mandela Day outreach brings hope to families in need

The spirit of Nelson Mandela’s legacy was alive and well in Klopperpark on July 18, as The Child Guardian Unit, God’s Little Treasures, and Cornerstone Church Klopperpark joined forces to host a remarkable Mandela Day community outreach event.
Cornerstone Church Klopperpark opened its gates to welcome families from the community to a vibrant flea market-style initiative, where participating companies, organisations and volunteers dedicated their 67 minutes of service by donating goods and services that directly benefited local residents.
Upon arrival, each family received a shopping bag and was invited to visit the various stalls to select essential items generously donated by businesses, schools, organisations and individuals.

The bags were soon filled with much-needed supplies, including food parcels, high-protein cereals, noodles, fresh fruit and vegetables, tinned food, clothing, caps, socks, stationery packs, baby care packs, books, blankets, knitted items, soup jars, and essential hygiene products such as sanitary pads, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

The event was made possible through the generosity of numerous donors. Although not all were able to attend in person, their contributions ensured that the stalls remained well stocked throughout the day.

Donations were received from Linksfield Primary School, Efficient Engineering, Kruinhof Knitting Club, Edenvale Child Welfare, Bedfordview Remedial, Learning and Therapy Centre, Karaglen Spar, Ayni Marketing, Lumos Mouldings, Khanyisa and the Focus Team.
Community organisations and vendors who participated on the day included God’s Little Treasures, Inner Wheel, Tomorrow 2ogether, Komatsu SA, Magwitch, The Child Guardian Unit, Veena and the Subbadu family, all of whom played an important role in making the event a memorable success.
Safety remained a key priority throughout the event, with Ironhide Security playing a leading role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for the attending families. With Mamba Security’s continuous support, the team ensured visitors could enjoy the day’s activities with peace of mind.
The collaborative effort extended beyond the organising partners, with Klopperpark Clinic, Klopperpark Primary School, the Bedfordview Victim Empowerment Group, Bedfordview SAPS and the Bedfordview Community Policing Forum (CPF) also attending.
The organisers described the event as an overwhelming success, with hundreds of donated items distributed to families in need and countless acts of kindness shared throughout the day.

More than simply providing essential goods, the initiative demonstrated what can be achieved when businesses, community organisations, schools and volunteers work together with a common purpose.
The organisers expressed their sincere gratitude to every individual, organisation and company that donated goods, offered services, volunteered their time or supported the event in any way.
